My mission is to drive meaningful action on climate change to preserve and protect the mountain ranges and glaciers of the world.
I have always been magnetically drawn to the mountains. As a skier and climber, spending time in the mountains energizes and inspires me. My passion for the mountains has led me to remote mountain ranges and glaciers around the world, from the Arctic to Antarctica. It has also opened my eyes to the impacts of climate change and inspired me to pursue a career in renewable energy.
You can feel nature’s pulse in the mountains. I love the deep connection with the environment and the unmatched feelings of freedom and joy that I find in the mountains; but in order to experience these benefits, the mountains require reverence and humility. You must read their signs and respect their warnings. The consequences can be devastating if you do not.
It is the same with our planet. If we pay attention to the signs, we can see that we are on the verge of unprecedented and catastrophic global consequences if we don’t act to reduce our carbon footprint. Soon, the places I love may be irrevocably changed. Take for example the Alps, which are warming at twice the global average rate.
Over the last decade, I have witnessed climate change first hand in the French Alps. I have seen receding glaciers, unpredictable snowpacks, and erratic weather. I have become deeply alarmed by the ways in which climate change is reshaping our world and I am no longer satisfied with just pursuing the summit.
That is why it is my mission to drive meaningful action on climate change to protect the places I love so that future generations can experience them.
